Onimusha Warlords takes place in the Warring States period of Japan's history. Several months before the start of the game, Oda Nobunaga is killed during battle. At the start of the game, a samurai named Samanosuke receives a letter from his friend Princess Yuki of Inabayama. Strange things are happening across the castle, with people disappearing. Samanosuke and his partner, the ninja Kaede, arrive at the castle in the midst of a demonic attack. Now Samanosuke and Kaede must rescue Yuki before she is sacrificed at the feet of the revived Nobunaga.
