Dremel carving stone. I carved a white marble (Statuary) seashell. This was my first attempt at something so complicated but it was hugely satisfying. I used a Parkside cordless Rotary Dremel type tool mounted in a Workzone vice, my Ferrex mini bench grinder and a Parkside 240v rotary grinder to shape the twists and turns. Although this was a challenge it was a hugely satisfying stone carving carving project and I shall return to marble carving again and again. I used an old ash try made from Alabaster marble I picked up for a song from a car boot sale. This can be a great source of all kinds of marbles for up-cycling for your craft ideas especially Onyx marble which is just beautiful. Alabaster is just a bit soft for this type of carving but if you can find some it is ideal for marble carving beginners. Carving marble with a Dremel type tool is a great hobby, marble is a hard stone, but relatively easy to carve with power tools and has a tight grain ideal for detailed designs. Carving stone or marble will create dust so ideally set up a water supply to any marble or stone carving machines. If you cant do this wear a good mask!
