Once upon a time doing a transit project in Toronto had a process. The government designed it. Then it shared details with the public. People knew where stations will go, where lines will go. The government took people's feedback into consideration and made changes. Then contractors bid to make it happen. . During the past few months, we saw a different story. The previously approved Relief Line was scrapped and replaced with the Ontario Line. Which means 2 km of above-ground lines. Starting across from Pape Jr School and potentially demolishing parks and community centers. With trains going through the heart of Leslieville right next to 19th-century houses. . We all want more transit. We all know there is a need for it in our community and in our city. But it has to make sense and it has to respect the opinion of the people. . We still do not have specific information about Ontario Line. All while the contractor is taking soil samples up and down Pape Ave and is going to start building it in 2021. This is why I am discussing it with Peter Tabuns, MPP, Toronto-Danforth. . Despite what the main concern of these days is life goes on. When we get over this situation the Ontario Line project will still be here. Peter's suggestion is for members of the community to email our opinion and concerns to the committee clerk.
