Times Of India's video: Devotees throng Golden Temple Bangla Sahib on Baisakhi

@Devotees throng Golden Temple, Bangla Sahib on Baisakhi
Devout Sikhs in Amritsar and New Delhi thronged shrines to offer prayers on the occasion of the festival of Baisakhi. The day holds special significance for the Sikhs as this day marks the birth anniversary of the 'Khalsa Panth'. The Panth was established in 1699 by the tenth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh on Baisakhi. Devotees in Amritsar offered prayers at the Golden Temple, holiest Sikh shrine and took holy dip in the ‘Sarovar’, holy pond in the complex of the temple to mark the auspicious occasion. Meanwhile, Sikhs in New Delhi paid obeisance at the Bangla Sahib shrine and sang hymns. A devotee, Tajweer Singh said, people wear new clothes, take bath in the holy pond and celebrate the festival with great fervour and devotion for the almighty. The festival also marks the onset of the harvesting season for the farmers in Punjab and is observed as a thanksgiving day. After the celebrations, the farmers start cutting the rabi (winter) crop and look forward to a better yield with each passing year.
