The Train Guy's video: Barmer to Rishikesh by Train Part 1 Through the Thar Desert of Rajasthan Indian Railways

@Barmer to Rishikesh by Train | Part 1 | Through the Thar Desert of Rajasthan | Indian Railways
A train journey from the western border of India in Rajasthan to the foothills of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand along the Thar Dessert & Northern Plains of India. Train : 14888 Barmer - Rishikesh Express Loco : Bhagat ki Kothi (BGKT) WDP4 Disclaimer : This video was recorded in December 2022 and is not the latest doubling or electrification update in this route. The first part of this journey covers the departure of the train from Barmer and its journey through the cities of Rajasthan that lie along the Thar Desert such as Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Suratgarh. The diesel hauled journey through Rajasthan is coming to an end soon with a majority of the route getting electrified. Hence, it won't be long before these roaring EMDs are replaced by WAP7 in these sides. BGKT has even received a few electric locomotives over the last few months. One of the reasons I love Indian Railways as a railfan but not as a Rail Engineer is the track sounds. They're responsible for damage of the wheels in the rolling stock but sound beautiful to the traveller on board. Don't miss the celebrity loco in Captain America livery at Jodhpur. Barmer is a city and municipal council in the Barmer district in the state of Rajasthan, India. It is the administrative headquarters of Barmer district. It is located in the western part of Rajasthan state forming a part of the Thar Desert. Barmer is the third largest district by area in Rajasthan and fifth largest district in India. The district borders Jaisalmer district in the north, Jalore district in the south, Pali district and Jodhpur district in the east, and Pakistan in the west. The district borders Tharpakar district of Sindh, the district with the largest population of Hindus in Pakistan. Rishikesh, also spelt as Hrishikesh, is a city near Dehradun in Dehradun district of the Indian state Uttarakhand. It is situated on the right bank of the Ganges River and is a pilgrimage town for Hindus, with ancient sages and saints meditating here in search of higher knowledge. It is known as the "Gateway to the Garhwal Himalayas" and "Yoga Capital of the World". Uttarkashi, a popular yoga destination, is 170 km (110 mi) uphill on the way to Gangotri. Rishikesh is the starting point for traveling to the four Chota Char Dham pilgrimage places: Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. It is also a starting point for Himalayan tourist destinations such as Harsil, Chopta, Auli, as well as summer and winter trekking destinations like Dodital, Dayara Bugyal, Kedarkantha and Har Ki Dun.
