Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and one of its 32 council areas. Historically part of the county of Midlothian (interchangeably Edinburghshire before 1921), it is located in Lothian on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth. Edinburgh is Scotland's second-most populous city, behind Glasgow, and the seventh-most populous city in the United Kingdom. Location : Edinburgh This video features a ride on the Edinburgh Trams from Edinburgh Park which is the interchange point for ScotRail for Edinburgh Airport to St. Andrew's Square which is the tram stop for Edinburgh Waverley. Trains to Edinburgh that operate along the East Coast Mainline terminate at Waverley. Furthermore, even trains that connect to Edinburgh on the West Coast Mainline to Edinburgh, terminate at Waverley. Edinburgh Trams is a tramway in Edinburgh, Scotland, operated by Edinburgh Trams Ltd. As of 2022 it is a 14-kilometre (8.7 mi) line between York Place in the New Town and Edinburgh Airport, with 15 stops. The tramway uses a mix of street running and segregated off-road track, with conventional tram stop platforms. Stops are fitted with shelters, ticket machines, lighting and CCTV. The network is operated from a depot in Gogar, close to the A8 roundabout, immediately west of Edinburgh Gateway tram stop. "Edin", the root of the city's name, derives from Eidyn, the name for this region in Cumbric, the Brittonic Celtic language formerly spoken there. The name's meaning is unknown. The district of Eidyn centred on the stronghold Din Eidyn, the dun or hillfort of Eidyn. This stronghold is believed to have been located at Castle Rock, now the site of Edinburgh Castle.
