The Whistler's video: Such A Getting Up Stairs American Folk

@Such A Getting Up Stairs (American Folk)
Another tune from Elias Howe's "Howe's School For The Flageolet" that was published in 1845; one hundred and fifty five years ago. I've tried to select simple, playable and uncommon melodies from it thus far for recording - this one fits all three categories! From a reading of the literature, this particular melody is likely based on the song of a similar name which became popular in America in the 1830's, and later became a performance piece. It, like a lot of Morris-associated pieces, has fallen out of favour of late, and there are very few modern recordings - the reason why the song is out of fashion is fairly clear with a little research, and needs no repeating here. This particular tune is thought to be a descendant of an earlier and similarly-named Border Morris dance tune. Border Morris is a newer term to describe the Morris dancing and associated music originating near the Welsh-English border, which is in modern times considered in the same light as the music, language and traditions were quite similar either side of the border. As for the tune, it's melodically straightforward but rhythmically interesting, especially in the second part! I plan to keep reviving tunes from this little-known but important tome in future uploads. Enjoy! Thank you for listening to my music.
