Tam Wrigley's video: Beyond Beautiful with Lisa Messenger

@Beyond Beautiful with Lisa Messenger
Lisa Messenger is the ultimate disruptor and believes that anything is possible. She's an open book and she should know because she's written 27 of them. Lisa is fearless and loves to talk about life with passion and has no limitations when talking about her journey. She’s an open book, pardon the pun, and wants to spread her knowledge with everyone. When I sat down recently with Lisa her opening statement to me was “there is nothing off limits at all, so go your hardest”. I think we all fear failure and maybe that’s what holds us back from pursuing our dreams or keeps us in a business longer than we should. We don’t want to embarrassment or humiliation of knowing we may have failed at something. I asked Lisa that very question – “Is it ok to fail”? “Oh my God YES!. I fail all day every day. I think failure is the best thing you can do, I can't express that enough because by failing that's the only way we learn and we move forward”. “If we're always striving for perfection, it's unattainable, if we're not failing, we're not fricking pushing the boundaries hard enough”. Do you want to live a comfortable life, or do you want to get a little bit uncomfortable and really live, you know? Lisa said. It was a conversation Lisa had while visiting her dad one weekend on the farm. Lisa asked for his guidance and advise on what to do with the magazine. His word to her “it’s time to let it go” He died the next day. When Lisa broke Collective Hub, she was really emotional and scared, scared because she had created a community of like-minded people who founded and forged their own business on advise from Lisa and the magazine. “The night before I put it out, "I'm closing the print magazine," I was thinking, "My God, we have such a huge community, so many people rely on this, so many people have said this is the reason they started their business or it gave them courage," or a myriad of other things. "Who am I to break the thing?" “I panicked but then reminded myself of the one thing I tell others, "If it's not serving me and I'm drowning and haemorrhaging every day, how can I possibly be the best version of myself and be in service”? Lisa told people the truth and with that came, not judgment, but celebration and respect. I'm sure there are people behind her back going, "She's an idiot." But, for the most part, all she received was this outpouring of unwavering love and support, something she didn’t expect. Lisa has put her learning and mistakes to good use and to pave the way forward for our next round of entrepreneurs. She has written seven books in the last five years charting that whole journey. Her latest “Work from Wherever” talks a lot about mindset shift. This was massive for Lisa and that 11 years we talked about prior to Collective Hub, with her three staff all came up to the surface. Every day her staff would turned up to the office, two of them lived in Bondi and Lisa lived in Bondi but they all travelled to Surry Hills to an office. "Why did we do that?" Lisa always chooses a topic and then full amerces and step into it so she can write in real time., On the 8th of April 2018, Lisa close the office and decentralized the team. She decided to live the next year as an experiment about working from…. Wherever. "Can you still have a really successful global business if you are decentralised and just have a laptop?" The answer, a year and a bit later, is absofrickenlutely.
