Tam Wrigley's video: EXTREME BATHROOM MAKEOVER - BATHROOM DETONATION

@EXTREME BATHROOM MAKEOVER - BATHROOM DETONATION
Who doesn’t love a good bathroom renovation? and this one tested my patience and my budget. This bathroom was all wrong in so many ways. The toilet sat in the middle of the room, the vanity bench top ran the whole length of one wall yet only had one basin, there was a TV cabinet used for the vanity cabinetry and the shower looked like it had just stepped out of the Art Deco era. There was a tiny mirror on the wall and a bathtub that hung out over the back extension of the home, which wasn't supported underneath... yikes! My grand plan was to put in a new double basin vanity but keep the existing bench-top, pull up the floor tiles and lay new ones and move the toilet to the corner, out of the way. The main shower would be a walk-in shower with a rainwater shower recess and the bath would remain in the same position. Things changed rapidly when I started jackhammering up the floor tiles and it went from bad to worse. When lifting up the tiles on the floor, we found probably 5 different bathroom configurations over the past 70 years. There were plumbing holes all throughout the flooring and about 3 different floor tiles from where previous owners had just tiles over the top of existing tiles. When we lifted up all the pre-existing tiles it became very clear that the bathroom had been leaking for years causing rot in most of the timber. Not only that but the termites it had a good munch at some of the wall structure and the supporting floor beams. This bathroom had to be fully gutted, new support beams installed, the structural engineer needed to let us know what support was needed externally to prevent the bathtub falling through the fall and all the wall frames and sheeting needed replacing. Once the new sport beams and flooring was put in, it was tool down on the bathroom project until all the outside structural engineering and building rectification works had been done. If we put our tile flooring down before the outside structure was fixed, then we could’ve cracked the waterproofing and our new tiles. 6 weeks later the bathroom could be completed. This bathroom was definitely a detonation and you’ll see why when you watch this week’s video on Renovate or Detonate.
