@TAKE ME BACK TO DREAMLAND (KickThePj fanart)
FINISHED DRAWING : http://thegodofpegana.deviantart.com/art/Take-Me-Back-To-Dreamland-337705207 DETAIL (Tiny Planet Explorer): http://thegodofpegana.deviantart.com/art/Take-Me-Back-To-Dreamland-Tiny-Planet-Explorer-337709267 THIS POSTER NOW HAS PRIDE OF PLACE ON PJ's BEDROOM WALL! Go have a look-see! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkTfxunXzWU GENESIS This video happened by accident! I was ready to embark on part 3 of my childhood comic book Redrawing Series, as one does, but this is what happened instead! I had no control over it. I like it when art makes me its female dog and bosses me around. This is also the very first drawing I made with my brand new tablet (Bamboo Fun Pen & Touch). My previous one died of old age. May it rust in peace. TWEET DREAMS This video is a tribute to Peter Johnson: http://www.youtube.com/kickthepj I am an absolute sucker for anything supernatural which is why some of Patrick Jackson's tweets are so delightful to read. They summon such vivid mental images in my horror-loving mind; so much so that I *had* to turn them into actual images, or bring those images out of my head and onto the paper, if you will. As always I refused to let the concept of the piece be monolithic -- I couldn't simply draw a single dream: I wanted to draw a collection of dreams, all combined into one. I wanted to draw the dreams that I actually ended up featuring at the beginning of the video. Indeed, like I said, this piece took a life of its own and decided otherwise. As I was drawing the piece, I started to find it unexpectedly gloomy/serious in spite of the "fun" concept that started it. And after a while it became obvious that cow weddings and ninja turtles would not belong in this piece. So I had to let go of that idea - and of the punny title I had for it, "Tweet Dreams". *Runs from bad-pun police* Being the control freak that I am, my projects very seldom escape me and gallop off in a completely different direction, leaving me no choice but to rush behind them or get left behind. As frustrating as that sounds, I loved it! I'm much happier with this piece than the one I had initially planned. I used all of the "tweet dreams" that still could be included and I added other elements which do come from Paul's tweets but are not accounts of dreams. And finally: I added elements that pertain to his "Youtube life" in general, which you will easily recognize if you regularly watch his videos and the videos of his well-known Youtube acquaintances. It sounds very boring when I put it this way but I assure you it's fun! =) REFERENCES Whenever I can, I like to instil various "cultural" references into my drawings -- as long as I can do it tastefully, coherently and subtly (that is to say without corrupting the "oneness" of the piece). I find that it enriches the drawing. For this piece I referenced two things. First of all, the idea of him floating above the bed while dreaming, with the shadow twitter birds flying above him, was partly inspired by the beginning of the music video of a famous singer. Her song was about dreams too -- which is why I used it. Can you guess who and which song it is? And I also made a very silly reference to a recent Hollywood film that was also about dreams. Have fun spotting it. Never one to half-arse my artistic endeavours (*pats own back*) I also did a little research on the idea of drawing the dreams that people tweet about and I found two websites that I think are sweet: http://tweetdreaming.tumblr.com/ http://tweetdreams.org/ RANDOM 1) I am not a photorealistic artist. I don't even qualify for "realistic" artist. ("You don't even qualify for 'artist.'" -- SHUT UP voice inside my head!) So don't expect the character I drew to bear the slightest likeness to Percy. I tried that before, in one of my very first videos, and failed miserably. 2) This video has more faces and face-like things than there are X-shaped things in the X-Men franchise! Count them all if you dare! We'll compare numbers. 3) Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak! Until next time Peganians! * MY TWITTER : https://twitter.com/ #!/TheGodOfPegana MY DEVIANTART : http://thegodofpegana.deviantart.com/gallery/ * Royalty Free Music by Kevin MacLeod- Used with Permission under Creative Commons license. http://incompetech.com
