Following the first episode, X begins to hunt down the eight Reploids that joined Sigma's Maverick revolt, all former Maverick Hunters that once partnered with X himself. Out of them, Chill Penguin is the first to be located and ordered for elimination after deliberately killing his former commander. X must venture all the way to a snowed down missile base, a place he's no stranger to... Stationed within, Chill Penguin awaits prepared for battle. Once again, this is pretty much a straightforward stage, virtually the easiest stage in the whole game. All the enemies present can be taken care of swiftly and don't really offer much of a challenge. (108 kg) Weapon: Shotgun Ice Weakness: X-Buster / Fire Wave Other Attacks: Sliding; Freezing; Ice Clone; Snowstorm BACKGROUND: Modeled after a penguin and designed specifically for extremely cold weather, Chill Penguin was once a former Maverick Hunter part of the 13th Polar Region Unit stationed in the South Pole. He was a former comrade of both X and Zero, and served his superiors well both in and out of combat; however, due to a spark in his circuitry, which was designed for flexible and somewhat minimalistic processing, his thoughts warped and soon began to grow unsatisfied of his position and duties, causing slight rifts between him, his Reploid comrades, and his superiors. This also exacerbated to a certain point his rivalry with Flame Mammoth who mocked those smaller than him. After hearing Sigma's rally call, Chill Penguin didn't think twice and decided to end his boredom by both returning to the city leaving the southern region, and killing his commanding officer, becoming a Maverick. Once part of Sigma's Maverick cadre, he was re-stationed in the South Pole to commandeer the Abandoned Missile Base, which he took over and made his base of operations. MISCELLANEOUS: • Although "Emperor of Snow" is the common title given to Chill Penguin, either "Lord" or "Emperor of the Snowy Plains and/or Fields" is also correct. • Although Abandoned Missile Base / 放棄されたミサイル基地 is the official and most common name of this stage, it is also known as both, Snow Mountain Stage / 雪山ステージ and Snowfield Stage / 雪原ステージ. -TRIVIA- • Chill Penguin was designed by Keiji Inafune. • Both, he and Flame Mammoth have a bitter rivalry. The obvious reason is that both ice and fire don't mix, but mostly because Chill Penguin detests those that solely rely on brute force. Another aspect of their rivalry is that Flame Mammoth actually tends to mock those smaller than him, which Chill Penguin obviously is. • Interestingly, in the Mega Man X manga, which consists of three volumes, Chill Penguin is the first Maverick that X fought, and proved to be quite an adversary. (Due note that this is a non-canon scenario.) • Chill Penguin was revived by Dr. Doppler in the Mega Mission 2 carddas released by Bandai. In it, he's remodeled and renamed Icy Penguigo L (Chill Penguin L), where the 'L' stands for "limited". His appearance somewhat resembles that of a Rockhopper penguin.
