In Part 10, Amicia and Hugo make their way through Laurentius' farm. There, they meet a pig, a horse, a chicken and, to a lesser extent, Laurentius himself and his apprentice, Lucas. Laurentius appears to have been bitten by a rat and is near the end of his life when the siblings arrive, about to give in to the Black Death.
