"Don’t Worry Baby" was written by Brian Wilson and Roger Christian and is the second track off of The Beach Boys 1964 release...Shut Down Volume 2. The ballad is a soft falsetto lead by Wilson's distinctive vocal sound. It was released as the B-side of The Beach Boys first US No. 1, "I Get Around". "Don't Worry Baby" is part of the The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll list. It is ranked as the 176th greatest song of all time in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. "Don't Worry Baby" tells the tale from the point of view of a teenager who reluctantly agrees to a challenge to race a rival after rashly bragging about his car. "I guess I should've kept my mouth shut, When I started to brag about my car, But I can't back down now because, I pushed the other guys too far". The song's promotion tells us he is reassured by his girlfriend's plea to take her love with him when he races. "She told me Baby when you race today, Just take along my love with you, And if you knew how much I loved you, Baby nothing could go wrong with you". Easily understood, "Don't Worry Baby" is about a guy who has a bit of a big mouth and has boasted about how good his car is to the wrong guys...the type who want a race. He talks about how his girl motivates and gives him inspiration for the race. However , this is not just about the race as I believe this is him trying to say that without the love that his girl gives him, he would be lost. It is a beautiful piece of music and gives a lovely representation on how powerful love is. Classic stuff.
