The lyrics..."I've got John Wayne stances, I've got Errol Flynn advances"... make references to Iconic American movie stars John Wayne and Errol Flynn. In this case, the singer notes that he imitates Wayne and Flynn but unfortunately for him "it doesn’t mean a doggone thing". Another thing to mention is that the ballad has a retro quality and its sound evokes the music of the 1950s and early 1960s. As the song progresses, our students hopes of any relationship with his teacher are fastly diminished when he tells us (shortly after saying "I was sitting in the classroom, Trying to look intelligent, In case the teacher looked at me")..."So I'm sitting in the classroom, I'm looking like a zombie, I'm waiting for the bell to ring".
