TheUglylucy4's video: A Little Is Enough

@A Little Is Enough
"A Little Is Enough" was written by Pete Townshend and is the eighth track off of his 1980 debut solo release...Empty Glass. The album deals with various issues that Townshend was experiencing at that time...alcoholism, drug abuse, marital problems and deceased friends. The title of the LP came to Townshend when he was sitting at a bar. The idea that a bartender gives you what you want and what you give him in return is a empty glass. You figure it out. The inspiration for "A Little Is Enough" came to Townshend when he made a visit to his spiritual guru, Meher Baba (also one of the two names he drew from for the title of Baba O'Riley). While there, Townshend was talking with Baba's secretary, Adi Irani, about his marital problems with his wife Karen. He was asked if he loved his wife...his reply was I guess a "little". It is through this conversation that he was told that when it comes to love, "even a little is enough". From there, Townshend was easily able to put into words a ballad about his problematic marriage in an effort to save it. "They say that love often passes in a second,And you can never catch it up,So I'm hanging on to you as though eternity beckon,But it's clear that the match is rough" opens the ballad with Townshend's desperate admission. This leads us to his confusion as to what to do..."Common sense's tell me not to try'n continue,But I'm after a piece of that diamond in you,So keep an eye open,My spirit ain't broken,Your love is so incredible,Your body so edible,You give me an overdose of love". We learn of his determination to make this marriage right in the songs middle stanza..."Just like a sailor heading into the seas,There's a gale blowing in my face,The high winds scare me but I need the breeze,And I can't head for any other place,Life would seem so easy on the other track,But even a hurricane won't turn me back". It is that "overdose" of love that explains the songs title..."You give me an overdose of love,Just a little is enough". Such simple advice regarding the ups and downs of relationships. But apparently in due time, the "enough" for our author and his wife ran dry. Pete Townshend and Karen Astley divorced in 2009. They have three children together. He currently lives with his long-time girlfriend, musician Rachel Fuller.
