"Love Alone Is Worth the Fight" was written by Jon Foreman for the Christian Alternative Rock band Switchfoot and is the third track off of their 2013 EP...Fading West. Originally called Chin Up, the band changed their name to Switchfoot after they were signed in 1996. Switchfoot are all experienced surfers and derive their name from a surfing stance. To surf "switch" means to ride with your opposite foot forward, which is far more difficult. "Love Alone Is Worth the Fight" is a song that carries the message that love overcomes all, and as a result what we go through to get it is certainly worth the struggle. The idea that nothing comes close to love. Not sex, drugs, or music. In times of struggle and depression, when all seems to be lost, we tend to feel pain and fear of the unknown. The antidote to all of this is love. Perhaps love is fear's true opposite. Most bad decisions, including hatred, are fueled by fear. But perfect love casts out fears. Perfect love brings us to a place of strength where we can accept the people and situation around us rather than fear it or deny it. In moments when we begin to wonder what we're living for, what we're aiming for, what we're struggling for. In moments when we question what we are really here for, we come to find that answer is love. The idea that love alone is worth the scars and pain that we sometimes need to promote through in order to achieve. That is what "Love Alone Is Worth the Fight" is all about.
