"Fox on the Run" was written by Sweet members Steve Priest, Brian Connolly, Mick Tucker, and Andy Scott. It is the seventh track off of the British Glam Band's 1974 release...Desolation Boulevard. . The album's American version, released in 1975, includes the 1973 hit "The Ballroom Blitz". "Fox on the Run" appears in numerous films...Dazed And Confused, Detroit Rock City, When in Rome, Catch .44, and The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard. Its inclusion in the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 led to the song reaching number one on the iTunes Rock Chart in late 2016. "Fox on the Run" tells the story of an aging, but once beautiful woman. More accurately, the ballad is most likely about a groupie. This unnamed woman is the "fox on the run". Apparently she's been around the block a bit and she doesn't look the same (probably a bit more worn from her lifestyle). Our author also makes it clear that he has no interest in hearing her talk and certainly doesn't want to know her name. Thus the lines..."I don't wanna know your name, Cause you don't look the same, The way you did before, Okay, you think you got a pretty face, But the rest of you is out of place, You looked alright before". The groupie indication is clearly seen in the lines..."You you talk about just every band, But the names you drop are second hand". I guess one could look at another interpretation of the song as possibly being in reference to a one night stand. Perhaps that is why (after wearing beer goggles the night before) our lady interest does not look the same and why our author does not want to know her name. Either way, our woman is on the run to another venture...as her looks fade away fast. And that is the advice she receives at the ballad's end..."Take a run and hide yourself away". "Fox on the Run" is a great Power Ballad from the 70's. A forgotten gem void of the airtime it deserves.
