TheUglylucy4's video: Drops of Jupiter

@Drops of Jupiter
"Drops of Jupiter" was written by Train's front man Patrick Monahan and is the third track off of the band's second LP, that goes by the same name...Drops of Jupiter. The ballad went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Rock Song of 2001. The song hit No. 5 of the Billboard 100 chart and also charted in the Top 40 for 29 weeks. The LP was stopped at No. 6. "Drops of Jupiter" was inspired from the death of Monahan's mother, Patricia Ann, who passed away after a battle with lung cancer. About a year after her death, Monahan woke up from a dream with the words "back in the atmosphere" going through his head. Thus the song's opening line..."Now that she's back in the atmosphere, With drops of Jupiter in her hair". According to Monahan, it was just her way of saying what it was like to be celestial. Like she was swimming through the planets and came to him with drops of Jupiter in her hair. "She acts like summer and walks like rain, Reminds me that there's a time to change, hey, Since the return from her stay on the moon, She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey" can be seen as since his mother’s death, he feels that her spirit has returned and taken on several different forms. He can sense her in the air, the elements, and the change of the seasons. To him, she’s everywhere and everything. Continuing the metaphorical comparison of his mother’s death to a trip into the sky, he asks her what she saw while in Heaven and what her experience there was like..."But tell me, did you sail across the sun, Did you make it to the Milky Way, To see the lights all faded, And that heaven is overrated". Our author goes on to wonder if his mother began to miss him while she was gone exploring all of the mysteries that await one after death..."And did you miss me, While you were looking for yourself out there". If you understand the inspiration of the ballad, the belief his mother is out there sailing through the universe, then you can see why "Drops of Jupiter" has so many lines making reference to our galaxy. This is great stuff powered by such a formidable inspiration. Someday, we all will know if there actually are any drops given off by Jupiter.
