"Found Out About You" was written by Doug Hopkins and is the eighth track off of the Gin Blossoms 1992 breakthrough LP...New Miserable Experience. The album got off to a slow start, but nearly a year after its release the lead single, "Hey Jealousy", hit the Top 40, with "Found Out About You" following a few months later. The album eventually reached multi-platinum status. "Found Out About You" tells the tale of the author letting out the sorrow and anger he feels after he finds out his girlfriend is a cheating whore. And you have to view her as such simply because the ballad is loaded with references to the fact she did not even confront him to break off the relationship..."All the lines you wrote to me were lies", "Whispers at the bus stop, Well I heard about nights at the school yard". Apparently our philandering hussy isn't very good at hiding her trail of men..."Rumours follow everywhere you go, And when you left I was last to know". Perhaps she left due to fame, possibly becoming a model..."You're famous now and there's no doubt, In all the places you hang out, They know your name and know what you're about". After the break up, the author becomes obsessed with her and obviously spends many hours wondering how he didn't notice her promiscuity..."I write your name drive past your house, Your boyfriend's over I watch your lights go out". Doug Hopkins, was fired near the conclusion of the recording sessions for the album, ostensibly for his persistent alcohol problems. His replacement, Scott Johnson, is listed as a member of the band in the liner notes, but did not play on the album. Just as the album was becoming a success, Hopkins entered a detox in Phoenix. One night he snuck out and bought a .38 caliber pistol. The next day, December 5th of 1993, Hopkins committed suicide. He was 32 years old.
