TheUglylucy4's video: Comfortably Numb

@Comfortably Numb
"Comfortably Numb" was written by Roger Waters and David Gilmour and is the nineteenth track off of Pink Floyd's 1979 classic...The Wall. The LP is the band's eleventh studio album and the last to feature the line-up of David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason. As with Floyd's prior three albums, The Wall is a concept album, exploring themes of abandonment and personal isolation. The Wall was one of the best selling LP's of 1980 and by 1999 it had sold over 23 million RIAA-certified units (11.5 million albums) making it the third highest certified album in the United States. The Wall is a rock opera that follows Pink, a character whom Waters modeled after himself and the band's original leader, Syd Barrett. Pink's life begins with the loss of his father during the Second World War and continues with abuse from his schoolteachers, an overprotective mother, and the breakdown of his marriage. This all contributes to his eventual self-imposed isolation from society, represented by a metaphorical wall. "Comfortably Numb" compares Pink's memories of being feverishly ill as a child with his feeling nothing at all in adulthood. The lyrics feature interplay between a doctor treating the adult Pink (sung by Waters) and Pink's inner monologue (sung by Gilmour). Roger Waters wrote the lyrics to "Comfortably Numb" and while many people thought the song was about drugs, Waters claims it is not. The lyrics are about what he felt like as a child when he was sick with a fever. As an adult, he got that feeling again sometimes, entering a state of delirium, where he felt detached from reality. He told Mojo magazine (December 2009) that the lines, "When I was a child I had a fever...My hands felt just like two balloons" were autobiographical. The song's ending chorus..."There is no pain you are receding, A distant ship, smoke on the horizon, You are only coming through in waves, Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying, When I was a child, I caught a fleeting glimpse, Out of the corner of my eye, I turned to look but it was gone, I cannot put my finger on it now, The child is grown, The dream is gone, I have become comfortably numb"...is the final step in Pink's transformation into the Neo-Nazi, fascist character you see in the movie The Wall. This version of "Comfortably Numb" can be found on Roger Waters 1990 release...The Wall: Live in Berlin.
