Webster lays it all out: if you’re not politically and mediawise standing up to the financiers, you’re not even in the political contest at all. One of the key problems of our time is that of unchecked finance capital using the real economy as collateral to back up the casino the financial system has been turned into. A casino that has for some years now gone into the quadrillion-dollar order of toxic debt – and, the casino that gave you the recent global recession and that threatens to give you an even worse one once collateral runs short. A ruling elite that believes CDOs, MBSs and CDSs carry value is not an elite. And, a ruling elite that believes its part in human civilization is to saddle that civilization with infinite debt so as to later assett-strip it for debt service does not deserve to rule. As Webster observes, the way out is actually that of progress and development: the transformation of the economy into an high intensity, industrial capital and industrial production-based, high wage economy.
