Thinking Digital Conference's video: Why Do We Sleep - Yang Dan

@Why Do We Sleep - Yang Dan
Join Yang Dan as she takes you through the world of sleep. We spend a third of our lifetimes sleeping, yet we know little about it. Sleep is an innate behaviour because we already know how to do it. It is important to us in our lives because if we are not getting enough of it, it can affect our mood, the way we work and how well we can concentrate. When we are sleeping, our brain is still working and it is producing waves, increasing our memory and storing everything that we have learnt throughout the day. Yang Dan is a Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology and an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of California, Berkeley. Yang’s research passion is about understanding sleep. What is the purpose of sleep? How do our brains control sleep? And further, how could we control our brains for improved sleep? Yang was a physics major at Beijing University, received her PhD training in Biological Sciences at Columbia University, and did her postdoctoral research on information coding in the visual system at Rockefeller University and Harvard Medical school. --- THINKING DIGITAL Latest news: https://thinkingdigital.co.uk Follow: http://twitter.com/thinkingdigital Like: http://facebook.com/thinkingdigital
