@June Rossmore "I Don't Like You" Edison Standard Record 10062 (1909) = composer Clare Beecher Kummer
June Rossmore sings "I Don't Like You" on Edison Standard Record 10062, issued in 1909. The song is by Clare Beecher Kummer, who lived from 1873 to 1958. I know nothing about June Rossmore, but I learned that Clare Beecher Kummer was an American playwright and grand niece of Henry Ward Beecher and Harriet Beecher Stowe. This writer charmed audiences and critics alike from 1916 to 1926 with a series of gentle-hearted farces and parlor dramas that she typically ended by rewarding her characters with everything they wished for plus a little added good fortune. She was born Clare Rodman Beecher on 9 January 1873 in Brooklyn, New York, and spent much of her time playing and listening to music, eventually studying composition in Manhattan and then in Boston. At the age of 22, on 6 October 1895, she married Frederick Arnold Kummer, with whom she had two daughters, Marjorie and Fredericka. The two divorced in 1907. Before becoming a playwright, Kummer pursued music, her first love, with success. In 1905 "Dearie" was originally composed as a private Valentine's Day song. It was then included in the Broadway musical Sergeant Brue, and soon many copies of the ballad were sold. She copyrighted 37 songs.
