Tim Pentreath's video: Gumball Transalps Rally 2021 Days 2 3 - Col du Palastre to La Chambre

Day 2 of the started with a 650m hike for Mincek and me up to the Col du Palastre but sadly cloud cover meant we only had a 12km glide down the valley to the main road. We hitched to Corps and were joined by Feite then most of the rest of the gang - five of us are camping and five are staying in the . We’re hoping for a better day tomorrow but cloudbase isn’t forecast to be very high so we shall see… Day 3 of the saw the five of us who camped above the Sanctuaire de Notre Dame de la Salette (the other five slept at the Sanctuaire) wake up to very damp tents from a heavy dew so we quickly decamped and hiked up to the nearby shepherd’s hut to dry things out, in the process turning it into a Chinese laundry! Once the other five joined us we hiked up to our takeoff point, where we probably took off 30 minutes too early because it was a real struggle on the steep slopes on the other side of the valley, but eventually all but one climbed out and made good progress. I took a slightly different route towards the end compared to Mincek, Feite and Mike, just for the sake of trying something different, and in the end they flew another 25kms I think. My route had spectacular scenery with few landing options at one point, and I landed safely in the windy Saint Jean de Maurienne valley at a town called La Chambre, randomly close (2 min drive) to Vincent’s house, who’s joining us on our flight tomorrow from La Sambuy. Mincek and Feite rendezvoused with their respective partners, Mike’s staying with Mincek, and I’m staying with Vincent and his wife Barbara… first night in a proper bed for ten nights! I’m not sure what the guys further down the track are doing… The only downer on the day was that Piotr ended up in Grenoble Hospital - we don’t know what happened but three of the guys who landed down near Grenoble tried to see him but they weren’t let in.
