In September of 2019 we are again in Northern England where we are in the ancient city of Newcastle and taking a look at the suburban rail system with its unique 4000 series articulated units, known as 'Metrocars', which are numbered 4001–4090 (994001 to 994090 in the TOPS system): these can operate singly, or in sets of 3 or 4 during empty stock movements, but are normally coupled together in pairs in service and have a maximum speed of 80 kmh. The existing trains began service in 1980 and are due to be replaced starting towards the end of 2021.
