Tom Hoffmann's video: U-RIG Build Details

@U-RIG Build Details
UPDATE ---- I just tried 8mm ArmorPrus for the Control Prusik. Same smooth response and efficiency, but stronger and much better high temp spec. RECOMMEND! SPECIAL DISCOUNT NOW AVAILABLE FOR OUR YOU-TUBE VIEWERS TreeStuff.com has seen your growing attention to our channel. Thank you all for your interest and comments. And here's a very nice surprise from them: enter the code TGH01 at www.TreeStuff.com and take 6% off your purchases. Thank you to Luke, Nick, Phil and the rest of the guys. They have all been very helpful with break testing, technical advice and great service. A terrific outfit to deal with. And thanks to Rock, Alan and the team at Rock Exotica for the great equipment and outstanding design support. Another very classy outfit! TECHNICAL NOTES 1) Sewn eyes for both prusiks are important to keep the cordage thinned out and deliver good performance on the 10mm HTP. 2) The tolerances in the anchor-end components are TIGHT. All three (3) of the steel biners made by Rock Exotica will work but everything else I happened to try DID NOT work. Be careful not to create a mechanical interference which would mis-configure the system. 3) The Ice Tail prusik on ½" Stable Braid, stoppered, will break the SB at the head-end Bowline at approximately 4250 pounds. Without a stopper, slipping will begin around 2000 pounds with minimal melting/glazing. The UltraTec would break SB at the prusik, due to its sharper bite. 4) The experienced rigger will recognize that the strongest configuration is the MA in hard lock (use the Radium Release Hitch, see "hard lockoff" vid), followed by the MA system with the control prusik behind a 3:1 advantage, and lastly the Hauling system, using one single strand and a direct prusik. The SWL varies WIDELY with configuration and demands good rigging experience to deploy properly. 5) Although the system looks superficially like a rescue rig, I do not recommend it for that purpose. A rescue rig needs to be bindingly simple. Efficiency and flexibility (terrific with the U-RIG) aren't important. The U-RIG will be best in experienced hands that need to tackle a wide range of rigging chores.
