@Shoppers flood supermarkets in anticipation of snow storm WKRC Ch 12
by Brad Underwood, WKRCSunday, February 14th 2021 CINCINNATI (WKRC) - People across the Tri- State are trying to get ahead of the storm by getting essentials at the store. If you were one of them, you probably found out those essentials are in short supply. Grocery stores and hardware stores were hit hard over the weekend. Plenty of people were "panic buying" and stocking up on supplies, preparing to either stay home or dig themselves out of the snow. "We’ve had some extra deliveries to keep up on milk and bread and produce that people buy up. So we’re just trying to hang in there,” said Alice Collins, Office Manager of the Clifton Market. No matter the size of the store, lines were full and many shelves are empty. At the Clifton Market, Collins says there was already a line when the store opened at 8 a.m. "It’s been pretty busy. We’re going to have a massive snowstorm coming up and Valentine’s Day weekend, so it’s been busier than usual,” said Collins. Steve Loar was a part of the shopping crowd. "I’ve been to three grocery stores. I guess this is number four, so most of them are packed to the rafters with people. It’s really hard to find a cart,” said Loar. At Outside Woods Hardware downtown, only a few pinches of salt remain on the sidewalk. The shelves inside are a little bare too when it comes to snowstorm supplies. "If you call, we give you the 'Four S’s' with 'No's': No sleds, no shovels, no snow blowers, and, of course, no salt. We hope it was a better Valentine’s Day, that’s all we can say,” said employee Mary Drayer. The same can be said almost everywhere. Even the big box stores are sold out. Luckily, at the salt pile, there's no shortage. Crews in the city and on the highway are ready around the Tri-State. "As accumulation picks up and we see a lot of snow coming down, we will just be putting the plows down and pushing the snow off and trying to keep things passable,” said ODOT Public Information Officer Kathleen Fuller. "It does take our cruise 2 -3 hours to complete a full route. So when we have snowfall rates of an inch an hour, a plow truck may come through, but by the time they’re back to that same location, we could have an inch or more of snow back on that road,” said Natalie Garrett, Public Relations Director, Seymour District with the Indiana Department of Transportation The big message from transportation departments is to give them some time and stay home, if you can. https://local12.com/news/local/shoppers-flood-supermarkets-in-anticipation-of-snow-storm Plus footage of cereal shopper, Clifton Market Video Archives and Clifton Skyline on Simpsons.
