Tom Meros's video: The Chambers Brothers - Willie Chambers tells Tom about their history

@The Chambers Brothers - Willie Chambers tells Tom about their history
In 1968 The Chambers Brothers hit the top of the Billboard Charts with "Time Has Come Today." The four brothers were George, Joe, Lester and Willie Chambers and their drummer Brian Keenan. Their major hit was an eleven minute recording of American blues and traditional gospel characteristics the crossed over to the psychedelic sound of rock 'n' roll. They started their lives and musical training in the cotton fields about 15 miles from Carthage, Mississippi. They sane in choir in their Baptist church and traveled to others. The entire family moved to Los Angeles in 1954. They played in small clubs and was eventually introduced to Barbara Dane and backed her up on stage and recording sessions at times. She brought The Chambers Brothers to the Newport (Conn.) Folk Festival where they played "Time Has Come Today" on Sunday, July 25, 1965. They were scolded by the event organizer as "Time Has Come Today" was not a folk song. On that day, they witnessed Bob Dylan playing on stage for the first time in public with his electric guitar. Willie recounts the history of his family, his brothers, and The Chambers Brothers group with Tom. www.TomMeros.com rockroll-history@usa.net
