I began rowing in the first year of my undergraduate degree in Lancaster University and continued for the full 3 year course. Over that time I progressed a great deal, going from a pretty unfit complete beginner with a 7:49 2km score, to the fittest I have been in my life competing in national competitions (HoRR, BUCS Regatta, Met Regatta) winning IM2 4+ at Durham Regatta and scoring 6:39 2km and 17:45 5km. After completing my undergrad, I was appointed as Head Coach of Rowing at Lancaster University in a paid part-time position. I coached the team for a full academic year seeing great success for the position of the boat club. This video was compiled during the summer of 2016 when I was rebuilding aerobic fitness with the ambition of taking up rowing once again as an athlete. I have since taken a step back from rowing, with weight training and the gym taking a higher priority and interest level now. However, rowing will always be a great passion for me. When training for a rowing season, the focus should be on long, high volume, low intensity style training on the ergo, in the boat or cycling. Weight training should also be a key part of any training program for accompanying strength gains. Hope you enjoy the video and learn something of my training process. Tom
