May 10th of every year is the fixed date of National Train Day since that was when the Golden Spike was laid connecting not just the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads together on the first Transcontinental mainline, but it also connected the United States by rail from coast to coast. For National Train Day of 2019, I joined YouTuber Train538 and one of his friends to go train watching in the evening after the homeward rush hour at the downtown Fairfield, CT station. All of the trains seen are typical for this section of the Northeast Corridor at the time the footage was recorded.
