Brandenburg's Economy Minister Jorg Steinbach says if you want to do things faster (referring to the construction of Tesla Giga Berlin EV plant), get used to early approvals and make use of these means as a legal remedy for speed. Steinbach gave an interview to RBB 24 and spoke about Tesla Giga Berlin factory's early approvals, payments, public perception and timelines. Jörg Steinbach: At least in Brandenburg, I am not aware of any procedures in recent years that have made use of these exemptions to this extent. And that one or the other feels that it takes getting used to, I can understand. On the other hand, it's a completely legal remedy. Usually, it is planned first, then approved and then built. But this also has the success that it sometimes takes forever. And if you want to do it faster, then you have to make use of this means. As I said, everyone has to get used to it first. But the state and the community of Grünheide go with them without a final permit, build new roads and build a new train station near the factory. How do you get the confidence that everything will work with Tesla? I would say it's a two-way movement. You have to consider that more than 500 million have already flowed into this construction site - be it through the actual activities there or through the ordering of the appropriate equipment, which is now being installed. The investor does everything at his own risk. So in this respect he is taking a great risk and trusting that the approval process will end properly. In addition, the investor has undertaken to dismantle everything in the event that the project would not be approved. But for me this is a very, very unlikely event. For me that is the reverse question of confidence. So it's easier for me to trust. An automobile manufacturer's factory is being built here. No nuclear power plant will be built, no classic chemical plant will be built. And if we in Germany were no longer in a position to properly approve such a factory, then I believe that my entire ministry could be saved. The investor spends enormous sums on his work, but misses payment deadlines for fee notices from the state. It has happened six times. Such behavior can lead to resentment. Can you understand this? Certainly! We are - I'll tell you - in the Prussian part of Brandenburg. We are used to different payment practices and different. But when you deal with large companies - I was lucky enough to try it beforehand - then I also know that payment deadlines are often exhausted up to the last second in order to save money indirectly again. This is uncomfortable for the money-receiving authority. It's a little hard to defend in public too. But in principle, that's not Tesla-specific. You can certainly experience that with companies of this size that the payment deadlines are used up to the first reminder. It's not nice, but it's a fact of life.
