Union Wood is a gorgeous woodland outside of Sligo, near Collooney. The woods were formerly part of the Cooper Estate and is now managed by Coillte. This place is teeming with wildlife, as well as walkers, cyclists, horse riders, and families. In this video I took the red route to check out the great views from the top of Union Rock over Sligo - taking in Knocknarea (supposed burial place of Queen Maedbh of Connacht), the Ox mountains, Carrowkeel, Kesh, and glimpses of the Dartry Mountains. Parts of this forest are kept as a nature reserve and Special Area of Conservation, with rich biodiversity. The Sligo Way also passes through here.
