Tractor Mike's video: Question for You How Do I Fix My Ditch

@Question for You...How Do I Fix My Ditch?
I spend a lot of my time answering viewer questions, today I'm turning the tables. The place where we live has a long driveway that runs through a valley, and half of it has a ditch on one side that is too steep and rough to mow. What should I do? The area in question looks okay now, but in the summer, when weeds are growing, it becomes a waste-high patch of weeds. The only way I can cut it right now is with a push mower, weedeater, or sickle mower, and I'm getting to the age that I don't like jobs that take that much effort. I want my zero turn to go over it. I want your opinion, but the way I see it I have three options... First, I could bite the bullet and bring in excavation equipment and make a real ditch out of it. It would involve cutting down and shaving off the western slope of it and getting rid of the dirt and rocks that would be left over. Then I'd have to establish grass on it before any remaining soil washed down the hill. Right now, that's my least favorite option. I could put in a French drain. A French drain is where you cut out a trench in the bottom of it and put drain tile in, then cover it with rock or dirt. The water finds the drain tile and rapidly travels down the hill. It would take some excavation and an expanse of drain tile to make that happen. I'm leaning toward the third option, leaving what is there and filling the trench up with coarse rock (also called shot rock) and then topping it with a more decorative rock, like smooth rock that comes out of a creek. The thought process is, the coarse rock would allow the water to drain through it, then the rock on top I would be able to drive the zero turn over. Since I mow high, I don't think I'd be contacting rocks with the blade once it settled. Any time I'm trying to do a project like this, I'll always ask a few buddies what they think because, sometimes, someone else has done the same thing and knows what works and what doesn't. I figure that there's nothing wrong with asking my subscriber base what they think, so if you have experience in this area, please put your comments down below. Heck, you might know other options that I haven't thought of that would help me make my ditch attractive and easy to care for. When I have all the comments and ideas together we'll decide on a cure for this eyesore and we'll move forward with the ditch repair. I'll let you know which way we go.
