Tractor Mike's video: Moving a Building With a Tractor

My neighbor Wes is moving a portable building up next to his shop and going to use my tractor to do it. I could see this being an epic fail video, but, knowing Wes, he'll have thought through the whole process and it'll go without incident. And that's what happened. Wes bought the portable building that we're moving for his trailer, and later decided to build on to his shop. So, he's designed a place for this little building where he can work on stuff under cover if he needs to and basically be outside. These buildings probably weigh about 1000 lbs., but they're extremely awkward and not built all that stout. You could easily tear one up in a move like this. Wes put timbers under the side rails and then hooked the three point to the back ones with chains, cinching them up so it couldn't move from side to side, and then doing the same thing with the front pallet forks and some ratchet straps. One timber was old and bowing a bit, and there was a pretty good slope to climb. He was in 4wd the entire way and was constantly adjusting the pallet forks to keep the timbers out of the ground, but as low as possible. Most importantly, he didn't get into a hurry. I acted as ballast and we gently moved the building in to place after driving out in his yard and backing it in. Everything went without a hitch, once in place, Wes removed the timbers and leveled everything, the finished product looks great! It's amazing what a little tractor can do with a cautious operator and a lot of pre-planning. This was a project that took longer to prepare for than it did to execute.
