Tractor Mike's video: 5700 for a John Deere 4310 Brake Job REALLY

@$5700 for a John Deere 4310 Brake Job REALLY?
Had viewer question about brakes on a John Deere 4310. Michael says his brakes are sticking and the local dealer quoted him $5700 for a complete brake job to fix the problem. He's not going to do that and wondered if I knew an easier fix. To be honest, I've never had to work on brakes on a tractor, so I really don't know. Anytime I have a tractor question, though, I go the the internet where there are three good sources of information. First is tractor forums. Enter your question "Why are the brakes sticking on my John Deere 4310?" There should be several forums, or discussions about how to repair the problem, and when I entered the question there were a bunch of them. You gotta be a little careful, there are lots of folks who are willing to share opinions on how to fix things, and some don't actually know. Usually, you can tell by the detail they go into if they really know their stuff. I like to check multiple forums to double check the information. It turns out, Michael's problem is probably one of dirt/rust accumulation and a lack of lubrication, and if he removes the back wheel he can find the components to work on. I actually found the best source of information was the second option, going to YouTube. Here's a link to a video that shows how to lubricate the components on a Deere 4410 to keep the brakes from sticking: https://youtu.be/U7Q8jhMwmUc from a guy named "Jake the Critic". Nice job Jake! YouTube is my "go to" for fixit information. Third, you can get schematic diagrams of all the components in the tractor by going to Deere's parts lookup site here: https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/. Enter the model number and navigate to the brake section and it'll show you every part in there. Michael may need to order a couple of replacement springs that are in the diagram. If that doesn't work I'd find a good "Shade Tree" mechanic. These are independent repairmen who charge a lot less per hour than the dealer's shop labor rate. If you have an older tractor, or are just cheap like I am, it's good to know a good shade tree tractor mechanic. Finally, I have a big problem with Michael's dealership. They're wanting to charge him $5700 to replace everything in the tractor's braking system when all it may need is just some WD-40 and TLC. That seems high, and if this is a dealership that would rather throw parts and labor at all problems, versus trying to help him find the real culprit as economically as possible, I'd probably be looking for a new dance partner. That estimate raises all kinds of red flags. LINKS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT...
