Tractor Mike's video: Raking Rocks Seeding Where the Tractor Eating Hole Was

@Raking Rocks & Seeding Where the Tractor Eating Hole Was
I decided to film myself doing some work today. When we dug out a ditch and filled it with rip rap, or large stones, to cure an erosion problem, it generated a lot of dirt that I used to fill holes in my pasture. Someone probably bulldozed the ground at some point and it left big holes where tree root balls came out. If you weren't paying attention, you could turn a tractor over when you hit those holes, so I used the soil from my ditch project to fill them up. Today, I'm seeding and raking the area, trying to get a stand of grass. I'd normally plant grass in the Fall. Where I live, we mostly raise cool season grasses, and if you plant them from mid-September through mid-October they get established with minimal weed competition, then they go dormant and have time to come back in the Spring. We did the excavation project fairly late, so I didn't have that option. I'm sowing a mixture of pasture grasses in the area with an antique cyclone seeder, then I'm going to lightly rake the area to get the seed in good contact with the soil, and then hope something grows there other than weeds, Johnson grass and poison Hemlock, which are abundant here. In the video you'll see me work, and get a training on how to drive your tractor down a fairly steep hill with a load of rocks in the bucket. Remember to fasten your seat belt, engage four wheel drive, and always keep your load low until you're ready to dump. A weight in the front can lift the back wheels off the ground going down a hill, and that's where your brakes are. You don't want to take a fast out-of-control ride down a slope. We'll see in a few weeks if I get any grass growing in this area. LINKS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT...
