Tractor Mike's video: Dumb Tractor Mike Move But I was LUCKY

@Dumb Tractor Mike Move, But I was LUCKY!
Occasionally I'll do a dumb tractor move and a couple of days ago I did a dandy. I was using my pallet forks to move a bunch of landscaping rocks with my tractor. That went fine. What happened afterward could have been a lot worse. If you have a tractor quick attach you'll have this happen to you sometime. I forgot to lock the pins down to secure the pallet forks on the quick attach. And they came off with a couple of big logs on them. What led up to this was a desire to clean up after we reworked some landscaping in the front of our house. What had been there was a jungle and so we hired our neighbor's landscaping company to pull it out and put it a more attractive group of plants. It looks a lot nicer. When they put in the new landscaping, they got rid of a bunch of flat rocks that had been on the border before. That was just fine with me, they were a pain to mow around and the new bed has a flat edge so I can mow up to it. I figured I'd use the rocks for something else so I had the landscapers put them on a pallet and set them out of their way in my yard. I decided to move them this past Monday afternoon. Before putting on the pallet forks, my wife and I fed our horses a round bale. After we were done, I took the bale fork off of the front of the tractor, put the pallet forks on, and moved the pallet. So far so good. I have a spot back in the woods where I keep stuff like that and dropped the pallet back there. While I was back there I saw a couple of logs that needed to be moved to a large brush pile I'm accumulating. So I lifted them up and took them there. The pile is on the way back to the barn. As I was dropping the logs on the brush pile I noticed that I was having trouble tilting the forks to get them to roll off. That should have triggered something in my brain to alert me of a problem but it didn't. When the pallet forks fell off the tractor it dawned on me that I couldn't remember locking the levers down that keep them on the front loader. That's why the forks weren't allowing the logs to roll off. I'm really lucky that the quick attach faceplate didn't get bent or "tweaked" when the forks came off. Also that the pallet forks didn't come back, along with the logs, into the grill of the tractor. I was able to get them back on and locked in place and get out from under the logs. It doesn't seem like any damage was done. If you own a quick attach that's hard to hook up or the pins are difficult to lock down, it's probably a result of someone doing what I did and forgetting to move the levers down to pin the frame in place. A lot of times, one side will come off while the other is on, and the extra weight will bend one of the attachment plates. You can hammer it back in place, but it's real tough to get it fixed permanently. Then you're s tuck with ordering a replacement faceplate and I happen to sell them here: https://asktractormike.com/quick-attach-replacement-face-plates/. Best advice is to double check every time you change attachments to make sure the pins are locked. I normally do that, and turn the attachment down to make sure the pins are secured through the brackets. I forgot this one time and ended up with a mess that could have been a lot worse.
