Decline Pushups Might Not Be For You! Pushups are already challenging enough on their own… but doing them with your feet elevated in a “decline” fashion is NEXT-LEVEL HARD! As a trainer for almost 10 years now, I’m just going to be straight up with you and say that 90%+ SHOULD NOT even bother with these. They pose more injury risk than benefit for most due to the incredible strength and body coordination demands of the movement. Stick to pushups with your feet flat on the ground, and drop those knees down if you can’t touch your chest to the ground without your knees! IF YOU DO want to attempt these, don’t fall into the subconscious trap of having your hands too far out in front of you. You’ll naturally want to do this to stabilize the “decline” position, but this is only going to strain your shoulders and reduce range of motion during your reps! Make sure your hands are BACK and stacked under your wrists. And as you go down, you want to follow the “down and slightly forward” motion rather than “straight down” to prevent shoulder strain! Again, these are insanely tough.. so approach them at your own risk! Build up your pushups from the ground up (literally) and over time you’ll be ready to tackle this beast of an exercise!
