This video isn’t meant to scare you; it’s meant to prepare you for many possible, yet unlikely, scenarios. Let me be very clear – the news does not portray in accurate depiction of the world. They only highlight the worst situations. That is their job - that’s how they get their views. Not traveling alone due to a fear of terrorist attacks or kidnappings or natural disasters is ridiculous. Unless of course you’re going to a place where those things are prevalent, which is so much more rare than we perceive. I have had some people tell me they wouldn’t visit New York City because of what happened on 9/11 – that’s crazy. At the same time, perhaps Caracas, Venezuela isn’t the best place for a family vacation at this time. Before arriving to your destination, check with the State Department or your country’s official website for any possible threats or warning. However, it is their job to warn you about everything possible; so again, don’t freak out. Chicago is yet another example of a safe and beautiful city with a very high murder rate. There are just some areas in the city where you 100% shouldn’t go. The same is true for the rest of the world. Just because certain parts of the country or city have issues, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go. You should just be educated on what regions or neighborhoods to stay away from. Some people will research themselves out of solo travel experiences because they dug-up old news articles. I can count on one hand the times something bad has happened to me in 13+ years of solo travel. Adventure is about being prepared, informed, and then taking calculated risks.
