Finally the long awaited good news, Come July 1, 2020, Indian Railways to speed up all three daily trains that run between the two metros Mumbai and Chennai. We are now on the Chennai Mumbai trunk route in Krishna station just after Raichur. This decision has been taken after IR completed about 90 per cent doubling and electrification of the Mumbai- Chennai route. The trains are the Chennai Egmore - Dadar express, Chennai Mumbai Mail and the Chennai Mumbai LTT Express. This major trunk route which connects Mumbai with Chennai and also with Bangalore & Hyderadbad has been the most neglected trunk route. Let us look at the milestones in the rail map. Chennai Mumbai is 1271 Km. Upto Renigunta doubling & electrifiaction 136Km was completed , Renigunta Guntakal 308 Km in 2013, Guntakal Wadi 228 in 2016 and Wadi Gulbarga in 2019, Pune Daund 75Km in 2016 that is total of 710 Km which us just over 50% in more than 15 years. What is remaining is Gulbarga Daund a distance of 300Km. IR enforced the Diesel over wires in late 2019 which allowed Electric locos to run end to end with Diesels attached over electrics between Daund and Wadi. Here you see departing trains on this sector with Diesel attached to trains. This has allowed the trains to save time at Wadi & Daund. Most trains are now run with electrics between Chennai & Wadi, KSR Bengaluru - Guntakal. Video Credits 1.
