@UNIQUE Features WAG 12 12000 hp Locomotive Enters Indian Railways Service
Nearly 2 years after PM Narendra Modi launched the WAG-12 locomotive in April 2019, the much-awaited locomotive has been commissioned into revenue service by the Indian Railways. A long-haul train consisting of 118 wagons was worked by WAG-12 locomotive ( 60027 ) in Mughalsarai division between Deen Dayal Upadhaya Station to Shivpur on 18.05.2020. These WAG-12 locomotives have been allocated a block of road numbers starting from 60000 onward. , Dear Viewers : This Video is Characterized for easy navigation and repeated viewing of specific sections that you like or may want to review. However, with the DFC not commissioned fully yet, the WAG-12 will operate on the IR network. The locomotive is capable of working on railway tracks with conventional OHE lines as well as on Dedicated Freight corridors with high rise OHE lines. Jointly developed by Alstom and Indian Railways, certified by Ministry of Railways and Commissioner of Railway Safety (RDSO), these WAG 12B engines are the highest-powered locomotives that will run on Indian rails. The final design, now known as WAG-12B, has been approved by the Indian Railways. This design is now heading for serial production at the new factory set up at Madhepura in Bihar. WAG 12B will allow faster and safer movement of heavier freight trains capable to haul ~6000 tonnes at a top speed of 100 kmph. These e-locos will increase the average speed of freight trains in India by at least 20-25 kmph. Equipped with IGBT based propulsion technology, it would lead to considerable savings in energy consumption due to use of regenerative braking. Proud moment for Indian Railways, as it became 6th country in the world to join the elite club of producing high horse power locomotive indegenously. It is the first time, high horse power locomotive has been operationalised on broad gauge track in the world.
