Aggersborg to największe w Danii dawne osiedle Wikingów. Zbudowano je na planie okręgu i otoczono wysokim na 4 metry wałem obronnym z wykopanym wkoło rowem. Strategiczne znaczenie twierdzy dopełniało jej położenie nad Limfjord. Usytuowany tu garnizon składał się z 5000 wojowników, kontrolując drogę wodną między Morzem Północnym a cieśniną Kattegat.
