So if your body is more acidic than alkaline, your health goes for a toss. “Clay is naturally alkaline in nature. When water is stored in it, it takes on the properties of clay and becomes alkaline,” says Dr Bhagwati. • No harmful chemicals: Most plastic bottles are meant only for a few uses and contain toxic chemicals like BPA, which is an endocrine disrupter. Storing water in clay pots, therefore, makes more sense since it not only enriches the water but also ensures that it is not contaminated. • Improves metabolism: Another reason why Dr Bhagwati recommends the use of clay pots is that it boosts metabolism. • Prevents sunstrokes: Drinking water from earthen pots is known to prevent episodes of sunstroke during summers when they are very common.Clay Pot Water • Good for the throat: Those suffering from cold, cough and asthma should prefer matka water instead of the water chilled in the fridge because the former is easier for the throat.
