I met some really cool guys from Puerto Rico named Jose and Alberto who just purchased a sailboat called Pura Vida in St. Thomas USVI. It had been damaged from the hurricanes the previous year and had all kinds of repairs that needed to be done. They had been working on it for over a month and felt they were almost ready to go when we all met they asked if I could come down and take a look at her and make sure it safe to sail it back to Puerto Rico. I thought it was going to be a quick afternoon of poking around the boat and giving em bit of advice here and there on what else might need to be done but it turned out that there was still a bunch work ahead of us. We immediately formed a strong connection and friendship as they were just getting into sailing and sailboats for the exact same reasons I had 3 years ago. I knew the right thing to do was to spend all my time doing everything I could to not only welcome them to the sailing community but to also ensure that the vessel was shipshape and sound for the inaugural voyage back to Puerto Rico. Once we finished up on all the projects I took them out on a few sailing lessons and taught them how to use their new adventure vessel! This is the story of my new bromigos and Pura Vida!
