Torna fort is a very big fort located in the state of Maharashtra, Pune. This fort is considered very important, because in 1643, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had acquired this fort only at the age of sixteen. This was the first fort for the Maratha empire. Shivaji Maharaj changed the name of this fort from prachand garh to the Torna, and the fort was rebuilt, built many monuments within the fort. This fort is one of those two Forts of Maratha Empire, where Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj waved the saffron flag! The second fort is Vijaydurg! After the death of Shivaji Maharaj's son Sambhaji in 18th Century, this fort came under the control of the Mughal Empire. Situated on the Sahyadri mountain range, this fort attracts tourists.
