@Reading and Northern #425: 2019 Mountain Top Rotary Excursion
The date was July 6, 2019 we went up to Mountain Top, Pennsylvania to chase one of the loudest steam engines in the world, the famous Reading and Northern . 425 is a 4-6-2 G-1 Pacific built in 1928 by Baldwin Locomotive Works, she was originally built for the Gulf, Mobile, and Northern, she was one of two Pacifics that was built for the Gulf Mobile, and Northern, the other being 426. They later became Gulf, Mobile and Ohio (425) and 582 (426). They were retired by 1950. Quickly after retirement, 580 and 582 were purchased by Paulson Spence as part of his Louisiana Eastern Railroad. They were renumbered to 4 (425) and 3 (426), as part of his big steam engines that Spence collected and hauled freight and passenger. When Spence died in 1961 and the Louisiana Eastern shutdown was scrapped while was bought by the Valley Forge Scenic Railroad and was renumbered back to . In the 70s it was purchased at the Wilmington and Western Railroad. In 1983, it was restored by the Blue Mountain and Reading (now known as the Reading Blue Mountain and Northern or for short the Reading and Northern) where it pull passenger excursions along with Reading T1 in 1987. In 1992 425 was painted blue to honor the Reading Crusader. In 1997 425 had to be taken out of service for a major rebuild. 425 didn't return to service until 2008 where it's been operating since then. We had a lot of fun chasing this amazing machine, 425 quickly became out of our favorites and we're hoping to see her again one day. Chasing along with us some of our close colleagues including Train Chamber, MPT 1225, Trainfan1015, Action, Set, and Go, Keeper of Steam Studios, Railfan Thommy, and Ethan Trainz Productions. Thank you all for coming along this chase with us! I hope y'all enjoy.
