"Did my childhood mess me up?" was a question I was asked from a young man in the Middle East. He was from a small town known as Ancient Damascus. He came to the U.S. to attend college but found much of his life impacted by his childhood. He found me online and took a flight to meet me for a session. We began by exploring the state of his adult relationships and found that many of them resembled the ways in which both of his parents engaged in their own relationships. He realized over 20 sessions with me that his childhood really impacted his adult life. Although many of us can probably remember a negative event or a bad experience with a parent, some people only remember the trauma. In this video, I discuss the consequences often experienced by adults with traumatic childhoods.
