Grandmothers Against Poverty and AIDS is an organisation located in Khayelitsha which provides education and social stimulation for grandmothers in townships around Cape Town. Today, many households in the township are headed by grandmothers because of their children dying from HIV and AIDS. The responsibility of being primary care-givers for the surviving grandchildren places a heavy burden on the elderly. And this, can impact their psychological, physical, and other forms of wellbeing.
