New Tricks (2003 TV Series) New Tricks is a comedy/crime drama that follows the work of the fictional Unsolved Crime And Open Case Squad (UCOS) of London's Metropolitan Police Service. Led by Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman, played by Amanda Redman, the Squad is made up of retired police officers who have been recruited to re-investigate unsolved crimes. The series title is taken from the proverb 'You can't teach an old dog new tricks'. Created by Nigel McCrery and Roy Mitchell, the pilot episode of New Tricks was broadcast on 27 March 2003 on BBC One. The current series, Series 10, began broadcasting on 30 July 2013, and will have 10 episodes. It will be the last series to star both Amanda Redman and Alun Armstrong. Ex-Detective Inspector Brian Lane, played by Alun Armstrong, will be replaced by Danny Griffin, played by Nicholas Lyndhurst, and Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman by Sacha Millard, played by Tamzin Outhwaite.
