@STEM Majors at UMKC: Modeling climate change for the Kansas City region
STEM Majors at UMKC is a short web series we’ve launched this fall to showcase some of the most exciting technologies, enticing experiments and hands-on learning happening in our Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs on campus. In the third video of our series, Fengpeng Sun, Ph.D., talks about his research using climate change modeling to predict extreme weather events in our region, as well as better understand the mechanisms behind it. As he explains, our earth's system is complicated and requires observation, modeling and analysis to understand what’s going on right now and what will happen in the future. His work looks at the impacts of climate change in our own backyard — on people’s heath, economic disparity, and urban planning. At UMKC, students can join faculty like Dr. Sun their laboratories — even as early as their undergraduate years! — to support cutting-edge research.
